For Children—Camp Avanti

Camp Avanti—where we all come together. Our summer camp program combines an exciting camp environment with an intensive sensory integration treatment approach. Campers participate in a broad range of fun activities that also have a therapeutic benefit. Campers receive occupational therapy utilizing neurobehavioral theories. Every camper’s program is created for the individual. It is updated throughout the week to take full advantage of the experience. The goal is to provide a total treatment environment in the context of a fun camp experience.

One highlight of the experience is during campfire gatherings. This is a special opportunity for singing, self-expression and camaraderie. Demonstrations of Native American lore and drumming are popular. Other activities include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Boating: canoeing/kayaking/sailing
  • Hiking
  • Horseback riding
  • Therapeutic Music
  • Nature activities
  • Outdoor games
  • Swimming
  • WonderLab: A Sensory Integration (SI) Therapy-Based treatment space full of opportunitites

We also offer Challenge Camp only for campers who have graduated from Overnight Camp—the Avanti Challenge for ages 13–16.  For 2022 this will have the campers using Icaghowan as a base camp and leaving for exploration/ challenge opportunities each day.

Camp Avanti 2022 is Sunday, July 3 – Friday, July 8, 2022. The location is  Camp Icaghowan  in Amery, Wisconsin. This is a YMCA camp set on a 40-acre island surrounded by Lake Wapogasset. The camp is approximately a 90-minute drive east from the Twin Cities—Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota.

There are three ways for children to experience camp.
